Fluoroquinolones: Their Niches & Negatives

Drs. Alyssa Castillo, MD, and Peter Bulger, MD, the class of fluoroquinolone antibiotics — including their unique spectra of activity but also the severe side effects and adverse drug reactions that resulted in an FDA Black Box warning against broad use. They will specifically review three syndromes in which up-front fluoroquinolone use should be avoided (sinusitis, uncomplicated UTI, and acute bronchitis) and discuss alternate antibiotic regimens for these conditions.
