Presented to Infection Prevention Committee, approved.
Nursing will administer the decolonization procedure.
Pharmacy will set up the stock/charge for the nasal decolonizing agent.
Central Supply/Materials Management will stock the decolonizing bath wipes.
Nurse Practice Committee will provide the work flow, write the procedure and provide the education for nursing staff.
Infection Preventionist will write changes in the MDRO Policy.
Plan to implement in January.
Both the ICU and Med Surg areas set up with the Decolonizing wipes.
Pharmacy to dispense the nasal decolonizing solution to the patient on decolonization
Printed copies of the Policy, procedure, and product information with the decolonizing wipes
education sent out via manager/supervisors
touched base with nurses on rounds
reminders needed to turn off warmer if there are no patients requiring decolonizing
request to modify the policy for additional cleaning of high touch areas if the decolonizing was not implemented within the first hour of patient placement
benefit of decreased PPE usage was most important at this time as COVID crisis hit and we were short on PPE
will add to the annual clinical education; added to 2021s mandatory IP Healthcare Worker education
very well liked by all staff, esp the ancillary staff ie. kitchen, PT, RT, SW as well as visitors and providers, not needing to wear extra PPE to enter the room.
will propose expanding decolonizing to the surgical arena; Surgical services declined at this time.
