Requirement for defined clinical indication within the EMR when ordering IV and PO antibiotics.

Benefit/goal: Faclitate ABO appropriate tracking and use.

Testing indicators to find out if useful for ABO tracking and appropriate use

Clinical indicators were added to all IV and PO ABO in EMR. Sept 2019 went live in EMR with indicators.

Feb 2020 running monthly reports analyzing results, which are revealing a sigificant amount of “Other” as the clinical indicator which leads to another PDSA study for cause and change.

Due to the sigificant amount of “Other” selected as the clinical indicator this will will lead to additional study find out why and if “Other” is being selected appropriately and who is inputting this selection. Is this due to paper order input, pharmacy input, or provider input?
