Finding Local Solutions to Emerging Health Challenges

UW CSiM is a collaborative tackling today's stewardship challenges in rural medicine. Join us!

About Us

Our Work

The Center for Stewardship in Medicine (CSiM) is a collaborative of rural hospitals working to strengthen clinical decision-making, reduce unnecessary interventions, implement innovative quality improvement practices, and support long-term viability and sustainability in rural America.  Through tele-education, peer collaboration, and comprehensive tools and guidance, we help healthcare teams deliver high-quality, sustainable solutions to emerging problems.

Our Vision

We envision a resilient rural health system where patients and healthcare workers thrive.

Our Mission

Guided by the unique needs of rural health, we foster connection, collaboration, and continuous learning to enhance quality of care and hospital resilience.

What We Do

Tele-Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (TASP ECHO)

  • Helping hospitals improve antimicrobial prescribing and infectious disease education through expert-led sessions, peer collaboration, and shared tools.

CSiM Technical Assistance

  • Providing responsive support for stewardship and quality projects—ranging from facility reviews to tailored tools and clinical guidance.

Intensive Quality Improvement Cohort (IQIC)

  • Supporting rural healthcare teams in driving measurable improvements through shared learning and peer-driven quality initiatives.

How We Do It

At CSiM, our approach focuses on building local capacity, knowledge, and resilience:

  • Education and Training: Through weekly tele mentoring sessions, strategic working groups, and one-on-one mentoring, we help hospitals build internal expertise and self-sufficiency.
  • Data-Driven Insights: We teach healthcare teams how to analyze their own hospital-specific data to identify opportunities for improvement and develop targeted interventions, connecting them with the necessary resources and guidance.
  • Ongoing Support: Our team provides continued guidance and troubleshooting to ensure sustainable progress, while encouraging local adaptation and innovation.
  • Technology Integration: Leveraging telemedicine tools, we connect rural hospitals with best practices and expert support to support
